If I'm going to tell a story, I might as well tell the truth.

The Brownie Conversation
Today I decided to bake my famous homemade Hershey Brownies. I sent out a mass text to all my cousins in the area. The first responder was J'von. He's my 16 year old cousin who is skinny as I don't know what but eats everything in his path. This was our conversation.
Mass Text: Making brownies!!!
J'von: On my way!!!
Me: The ingredients aren't mixed together yet. But you could go buy me some sticks of butter and I'll make some blondes too.
J'von: All of a sudden I'm not hungry anymore.
Me: Blah! I'm sticking with the brownies.
J'von: That's what I thought (:
Me: Don't make me merk you.
J'von: Merk? Is that the new lingo these days?
Me: Lil Wayne used to say merk. Short for murder. Lol! Dang. That sounds bad. Ok ok. Don't make me bear hug you.
J'von: Naw naw naw. Bear hugs are Marie's move.
Me: Pinch yo but! Ha!
J'von: Can't reach :O
Me: Pssssssh chiiii! Yeah I can.
J'von: I can't even see ma butt! Get it right.
Me: Lol! Dummy.
J'von: I know what you are but what am I?
Me: Unicorns and glitter.
J'von: KRISSY!!!!
Me: What?!
J'vaon: Call 1-800-LAW-YERS! BLAAAH.
Little back story: 1-800-LAW-YERS is an annoying day time commercial that plays all the time. On Thanksgiving I had the jingle stuck in my head and I kept singing it to everybody. A few hours later my nut of a cousin J'von made a game out of it. The rule was: if someone called your name and you responded with "What?" you got 1-800-LAW-YERS shouted in your face. So here it is four weeks after Thanksgiving and this guy gets me when my guard is down.
Me: I don't like you.
J'von: Just mad cause I got cha!!!
Me: Sho is, Foo'.
J'von: I'm da man.
Me: In the words of Marie, pssssh chiiii!
Marie is his 11 year old sister I always blog about.
J'von: Wow!
J'von: So...You make deliveries?
Me: Hell no.
Me: $5 delivery fee.
J'von: Well then. What kind of service is this!
J'von: Family discount?
Me: Who said this was a service? I supply the goods. You drive to get it. Done.
J'von: That wasn't in the contract.
Me: J'von.
J'von: Krissy :D
Me: Call 1-800-LAW-YERS! Berrrrrm! Nah! :)
J'von: I didn't say "What?"
Me: The rules have changed, my friend.
J'von: No!!!
Mass text (with picture included): I present to you...but its hot. So its technically not ready so. Um. Yeah.
J'von: :(
Me: Whaaaat? Come and get it, Narrow.
That's what I call him
J'von: Yeah. No car!!!
Me: Your mom is picking some up after work.
J'von: That's at midnight.
Me: Well dang.
J'von: Yup. Lemmie borrow $2,000.
Me: Negro, please! I wish I did have that much to give.
What's wrong with these kids these days?
J'von: Darn.
Me: I have a Ziplock bag with three brownies for you and your parents
J'von: Okay. Niiiiice!!!
I see I'mma have to bake more often.

Locks and Locks
Date: Friday July 28, 2011
Time: 1 PM
Location: Driveway
After starting the ignition, Krissy looks over at Marie sitting in the drivers seat and kiddishly says, "I didn't do my hair today like you."
Marie looks up at Krissy's sloppy ponytail and replies, "I don't know if I should be offended or glad." speaking in her shocked monotone voice.
Krissy looks back over at Marie while reversing out of the driveway saying with laughter in her voice, "I don't know."

Bad Influence
I ran and stood on the bottom of the stairs yelling up to my little cousin.
"Marie! Marie! Come here!"
Marie came running from the upstairs loft to the bottom of the stairs of where I was standing.
"Yeah?"
"What do you wanna go to QT for?"
"To get a bag of chips."
I looked over to my right staring into the kitchen. "There's two bags of chips right there and they're free."
Being the young thing that she is, she gave her famous innocent cheesy smile and kiddishly said, "I don't like those. I want hot Cheetos."
"Uh. Those are Cheetos and you can put hot sauce on it."
"But I don't want to put hot sauce on those." Still trying to be convincing. "Come on. Take me to QT."
"Why does it have to be QT? Why can't it be CVS, Walgreens, Circle K...?"
Still being the adorable little thing she is, Marie replies, "Oh. I never thought about that."
I chime in. "Because. You live on the other side of the railroad tracks."
In her highest pitch of voice, "Exactly!" vomits out of her mouth. "Now take me to QT."
There's something about this little girl always trying to get me to take her places. Everytime I see her she says "Take me to get some sushi." or "Take me to QT." or the never ending "Take me to Fry's." Do I ever take her? No. That's just who she is. My auto response is "How much money do you have?" her amount never changes. Its either "$1." or "$2." Other times she randomly shouts out "Let's make S'mores." I say, "We need ingredients. Do you have any 'S'mores' money?" and of course I get the "I have $1." One dollar isn't gonna buy a graham cracker. So, no we can't make S'mores this time, little girl.
Last year I made it a priority to do things with her and her little brother. We'd make Friday plans to do anything. My favorite was the time I went and brought the re-release of Disney's Alice in Wonderland. That Friday was a big deal. Marie and I went to Fry's and brought strawberries, a whole pineapple, seedless grapes, and a kiwi (even though I'm allergic to them). I love exposing her to new and different things. Turns out she loves the little fuzzy green fruit. We went home, washed and cut all the fruit and made this massive fruit salad. At that time I was working at Jason's Deli. I brought her a Kids Baked Potato. That thing is literally as big as my foot! And I wear a size 8 1/2 shoe. So you can only imagine how huge that Idaho potato is. It was loaded with butter, bacon, cheddar, and sour cream. Talk about nutrious and delicious. I ordered myself the turkey Muffaletta. If you've never had a Muffaletta I suggest you try one A.S.A.P. Earlier while I was at work that day, I brought their famous fruit dip to go with our fruit. That dip is a big deal. I know the ingrediants and I would spew them out to you, but I'm not at liberty to say what's exactly in it. I'll probably get sued or something for briefly mentioning it. This is America. We get sued over looking at someone the wrong way. Anyhoo...
We didn't go to QT...this time. Before she tried to run away from me I said, "Wait wait. Come here."
Looking daised and confused Marie collides with me. "What. What."
Going in close to her ear I began to whisper, "In ten years you'll be old enough to drink alcohol."
She started to giggle while covering her mouth. "I don't care." while still giggling.
"Yes you do. Its wonderful. Its wonderful."
I don't know what lead me to tell her about alcohol. I mean. Maybe I do. I did enjoy a glass of Moscato maybe a half hour to an hour before calling her down. But still. That was random. Even for me.
Its official. I'm a bad influence. The closer they are to 21, the more I speak of alcohol. I don't know. Its just in my wino nature.

Tea in China
"Marie, tell Terrell to get in here to do his homework."
There I was doing what I do best. Being "mom" to my two youngest cousins.
"Terrell! Krissy said get in here to do your homework!" Marie came running back in from the garage. "Terrell said, can he do his homework later so he can go over to his friends house to play?"
"No. Tell him I said, get. In. Here. Now." Marie ran out to the garage. Seconds later I hear the door to the garage slam. They both approach me while I stood at the kitchen island eating my salad.
"Can I stay outside and play with my friend while the sun is still up?"
"No. Do your homework now and get it over with."
"Aw! But I wanna play over my friends house." I took that little bit of information and seen it as an opportunity to mess with his head, just as I always do.
"That has nothing to do with the price of tea in China." Terrell looked at me with a puzzled look. "What! There's no T in China."
"Yes there is."
His sister and I looked at each other and laughed out loud.
"No it's not."
Marie blurted out while in laughter. "What are you talkin' about, Terrell? There is tea in China."
Still not convinced Terrell sticks to his one liner. "No it's not."
"How do you know? You've never been there. There's tea in China." All the while I'm thinking to myself, 'I've never been to China either, but I know there's tea there.' I look over my shoulder at him. "There's tea all over the world. Why wouldn't it be any tea in China?"
The kids grand dad tares himself away from Judge Judy and lets out a loud belly laugh from the living floor. He then chimes in to our ridiculous debate we were caught having with his baritone voice, "You don't believe there's tea in China?" And continued on with his loud belly laugh.
In the most annoying whining voice Terrell could conjure up, he replies, "NOOooooo." All the while all three of us are laughing because we can't believe our ears. Then in the toughest voice Terrell could dig up out of his immature throat he says to all of us, "You can't spell China with a T."
We all suddenly came to the same conclusion and laugh even harder at his eight year old mind. I respond, "Oh! T in China. No, Terrell. Tea. T-E-A. 'That has nothing to do with the price of T-E-A in China.' Do you get it now?"
Terrell looks up at me, smiles, and laughs at himself.

Family Business (original post date March 30, 2008)
Three years ago on the 20th of February, Me and eight other of my relatives took the three day journey that landed us in Arizona (AZ).
The three day journey traveling across seven States was an adventure for all of us. While packing up our three cars in Michigan (MI), we experienced an ice storm that had us all sliding down the driveway as we packed up the cars. There wasn't a dry person in the group. We were all soaking wet!
Once we reached the house, we all met up with my other cousin Yvette, her two boys, and Lynn. Talk about a tear fest. Finally all 12 of us were reunited again. We've only been apart for four months and everybody starts snotting up all over the place. The only four that was missing was my mom, brother, and my cousin Shavonne's husband Antonio. They all had to stay back in Michigan. And my cousin Latrice moved to California. So there we were. All 13 of us sharing a four bedroom, three and a half bathroom house. Luckily, there was a loft. Because without it, all that living space would not have been possible.
This blog I'm posting is an old blog from my (deactivated) Myspace account. It takes place in March 2008 when everyone was moving out. I hope you enjoy it. I know I did when I rediscovered it in my blog archive saved on my computer.
March 30, 2008
The three day journey traveling across seven States was an adventure for all of us. While packing up our three cars in Michigan (MI), we experienced an ice storm that had us all sliding down the driveway as we packed up the cars. There wasn't a dry person in the group. We were all soaking wet!
The road trip started with my then, 5 year old cousin, Terrell, asking "Are we there yet?" and stopping every two hours for gas, potty breaks, and snack fill ups. We drove through Indiana (IN). Nothing special happened there. Illinois (IL) is where the fun started. We experiecned frigid air and high winds. So much wind in fact, my SUV (may she rest in peace) was being bullied and pushed along the highway. That was some scary stuff. Missouri (MO) was beautiful. We seen the Gateway Arch, hills along the highway that we had the privilege to drive through, and the temperature was starting to warm up. Oklahoma (OK) was nice. But not as nice as Missouri. There was when my family experienced Carl's Jr. for the first time. Before that, they've never heard of it. I love that place. Texas (TX) was when me, my cousin Shavonne and her three kids came up with the game Animal or "Animules". Whenever we spotted a field full of Cows, sheep, pigs, or whatever type of animal we would shout out "Animal!" or "Animules!". Whoever was the first to shout it out won the game. The rules were really simple. But as far as Texas goes, I hated it. Texas is too damn big. It took us from sun up to sun down to travel through the Lone Range State. No fun I must say. New Mexico (NM) was my absolute favorite State of all. I fell in love with the mountains, plateaus, the desert, and I really enjoyed seeing the artwork along the highway. They were all so beautiful. It's a landscape that I grew up far from and it's the State where I experienced my first Tamale. Then, finally, Arizona (AZ). It wasn't easy getting to where we are now. We had to drive down a mountain in the dark on a two-lane highway on a 6% decline in the rain. And my I add, it wasn't just any 'ol rain, it was a thunderstorm! Very frightening. Once we reached stable ground at the Circle K gas station we all got out of our cars and kissed the ground. My cousin Michael on the other hand. He was glued to his steering wheel in disbelief. But then we had to do round two on another mountain on a 6% decline. It was there that my cousin David's car temporarily broke down on the mountain while we were driving down. I felt bad for him. But we made it to the city and finally made it home. 33 hours, 22 minutes, 3 days, and over 2,000 miles was all it took to drive from Michigan to Arizona. I had a blast! I would do it all over again.
March 30, 2008
Well, the fun is over. My 13 person household is now a 6 person household. My cousins Yvette and her two teenage boys moved out today. Her sister Shavonne (and husband Antonio, who is still in MI) left two days ago, along with their three kids, a pre-teen boy, an eight year old girl and a five year old boy. This house is sooooo quiet. I hate to say this but, I dread it. I actually have room to hear my thoughts. The quiet is soooo distracting.
This house used to be vibrant. Upstairs in the loft where the computer is, we had two TV’s going. One was specifically for the Direct T.V or Sponge Bob Network as I call it, since that’s the only show the boys wanted to watch, and the other T.V was only for the Play Station 2. There was always someone up here being entertained by something. Now it’s just one lone T.V that’s off more often than on and the computer that no one is fighting to use.
I don’t have any reason to look forward to 3 and 4 in the afternoon anymore. Seeing as how my 5 cousins are all in their own homes now. I can’t just randomly pop up and yell "Do your homework!" and then walk away. I can’t expect the volume of the house to go up every few minutes. I can’t just peep out my bedroom window and see the backyard being taken over by little people.
The pleasant noisy sounds of kids playin’ in the backyard, shootin’ hoops, accompanied by of the thud of the basketball bouncing off the pavement and "Swooshing" out the the Nerf/And 1 basket net, has all been taken over by the peaceful reserved sounds of well, nothing. Only occasionally being replaced by the passing air planes thousands of miles above, the smooth sound of metal gliding against the railroads teamed with a slight "Choo-choo" from the train, and the unenthusiastic barking from a dog in the distance.
The refrigerator, freezer, and pantry now lie nearly empty. The kitchen used to be plentiful with food, snacks, and soft drinks. Now the amount of food, snacks, and drinks have been dramatically decreased. I have to admit, I can sometimes be a bit of a crumb snatcher. Yeah sure, I have a nice figure, but I take after my mama when it comes to this--What?! I love food.
The kitchen always had someone in it. I blogged about this back in July of 2007, titled Follow the leader. It’s about how when one person gets up to grab a snack and then suddenly life itself stops ’cause now everyone wants to get up and grab a snack. That excitement is all gone now.
Dinner time carried a whole different meaning in this house. Dinner time meant having a car load of people going out to venture out on John Wayne Parkway for food, come back, crowed around the kitchen island and spread out into the Family room all while poking fun at Terrell ’cause he didn’t want to "smell" our food. It’s just-- it’s just nothing now. The kitchen is lifeless.
The Family room was filled with the laughter of all the women in the family. Nana, Lynn, Faye, Yvette, Shavonne, and sometimes Sylvester exchanging stories, jokes, or yelling at the kids ’cause they actin’ wild, all while being indecisive on what to watch on T.V. A lot of that excessive energy died down.
The upstairs bathroom will never run out of toilet paper! Now that there isn’t 5 kids taking it for granted. I walked in awhile ago and I was shocked by how much space was available. My toothbrush is the only one in there! When before it would stand around with three others. My face towel is the only one hanging behind the door on the three row towel rack. And oh my gosh! No more walking onto a wet floor mat and sink. Everything is perfectly dry. Weird...
I used to share a room with my cousin Marie. Now, it’s just me. Before the move to Arizona I always loved to have my own space and quiet. Now that I’ve experienced it with someone I’m actually missing her. I miss the way she’d pop in just to cause trouble, especially when I’m in my zone. (Listening to music, reading, or writing). I miss all her little clothes hanging from her side of the walk-in closet. I miss how she had all her little girly things laying around in a messy pile by the side of her bed off on her side of the room, and how she emulated me by writing in her notebook with her set of colored BiC Velocity pens. My room is so dull now. There’s nothing but this big empty space where her bed was.
Bedtime will never be the same. Terrell and Marie was always the first to go. The best was when Terrell had to go around and hug everybody and say goodnight, even though he acted like he didn’t want to, but we knew he enjoyed it. I loved watching him running around with his adored Pooh Bear with his little grey wife beater and dark blue basket ball shorts. And also loved the other good times with Marie. Like when I’d be in my room, once again writing (Jeez! Is that all I do?) and I had to dim the lights and turn down the T.V so Marie could prey and fall asleep. Or the other times when I wasn’t writing (See! I do have a life) and was actually watching T.V. Sometimes when Marie couldn’t fall asleep we’d joke around, talk, or just chill and watch Friends, Scrubs, or the Simpson’s, depending on how late it was, until she fell asleep and then I’d fall asleep awhile after her.
I’m off midnight duty when it comes to Marie. Every night I’d tuck her in before Shavonne gets a chance since Terrell was a handful. And every night I’d wake up every few hours just to make sure she’s well adjusted. If she’s not, I’d cut in and re-adjust her and making sure she didn’t kick off all her covers. The Arizona nights can be really frigid. So, I had to take care of my girl. I never liked seeing her shivering.
My room has fallen silent. I’m no longer being entertained by the sound of Marie talking in her sleep, or hearing her flop around on queen sized inflatable air mattress, that stood about yay high, up to my knees. Thank God that the sound of that torturous grinding of teeth is over! Oh! I’m glad I don’t have to live through that every night. Now, the only sound I’m limited to hearing is the soft sound of air passing through the blades of my fan and the hum of the central air or central fan.
Having to walk through the loft to sneak past Big and Little Mike sleeping, tip toeing down the stairs, and zipping past Shavonne, Mikel, A.J, and Terrell in the living room, if they’re not already sleeping upstairs in their room, with the T.V on a low volume advertising infomercials, just to get to the kitchen for a late snack or a well needed glass of water is all over. All the other adults (and me and Marie) had rooms. That part won’t change. But what did change was the noisy mornings.
No more Shavonne sneaking in to wake Marie after I’d already been woke and can clearly hear every attempted whisper. No more bein’ awaken by the attempted whisper after I had a long sleepless night. No more hearing Terrell downstairs complaining that he doesn’t want to eat before school. No more hearing the boys chattering before they walkout for school. No more.
I didn’t know that I’d be so attached to these people. For goodness sake, I see them every day! Especially on the weekends. What am I trippin’ over? Deep inside I never wanted them to go. I’d been secretly depressed for the last two weeks since I knew they were leaving soon. Everyone picked up on my secret depression in the middle of this week and teased me for awhile. But it’s all good ’cause we’re never parted for long.
...I wish they didn’t have to go...

Movie Night!
It all started with a large Hot-N-Ready peperoni pizza from Little Caesar's, my cousin Yvette brought. I brought the 12 pack of white cupcakes with vanilla frosting. They are so cute! There have tiny little red hearts that decorate the top of the white frosting. And each cupcake comes with a colorful plastic heart ring. Along with the sweets, I brought mini pretzels with salsa con queso (salsa cheese dip), and a bag of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos.
We (me and my five other cousins) started out with watching You Again until I got a text from Shavonne saying "Dey ready". It was time for me to pick up the kids. For those that are wondering, no I'm not a mommy. I call my two little cousins (one 10 year old girl and one 8 year old boy) the kids or "my babies" because I feel like I'm their mommy when their real mommy's at work or home. I like to call them "my weekend kids" because when they end up spending the night I make sure they're tucked in and they have a pillow to rest their little heads on. I make sure they eat, they brush their teeth, and clean their little parts. I also make sure they're entertained. And I also spoil them and take them places when my budget calls for it. So 'bout time I got back home from picking up the little brats from home, the movie was mid way over. The three of us already had plans to watch a movie so we went to my room and started watching Alice in Wonderland.
Nothing against Despicable Me, but uh, the kids and I decided to watch something else until tomorrow, when my cousin Yvette watches Despicable Me. She finally agreed to watch it to "see what all the fuss is about". The funny thing about Despicable Me is that me and the kids have been watching that movie practically every week since December 2010 when I brought it. I, on the other hand, sneak and watch the movie when the kids are at home. I can't get enough of it! It's hands down my favorite movie of last year. I can quote the entire movie like no ones business. But I'll save that for another time.
Terrell (8 year old boy) dosed off on the floor with his head planted next to his pretzel and Dorito bowl. Alice was minutes away from meeting the Queen and he got sleepy and missed it. He was the one that was going gaga to watch Alice in Wonderland and he was the first to bite the dust. Amature. I told that boy he wasn't gonna eat all of his snacks.
After Marie (10 year old girl) and I discovered that Terrell was wiped out, we put in 13 Going on 30. She doesn't want to admit it, but this is one of her favorite movies. We've been watching it every few months for the past three years (every since we moved here from Michigan). Meanwhile, in the living room the boys and their mom, Yvette, are watching Paranormal Activity 2. The other two went to bed after You Again went off. I took a few peeps at Paranormal Activity 2. The beginning looked a little mundane. I wasn't drawn in. Moments later while I went out to refill my cup with water, I jumped really hard on one scene because from what I seen, stuff like that doesn't happen everyday. In the words of the boys "Thaaat's nooot riiight".
Now for those of you that don't really know me don't know how that I get my sense of humor from my mom. My mom laughs at the most inappropriate things. So for those that were there last year when I watched the first Paranormal Activity know that I laughed pretty much throughout the movie. It wasn't scary and I knew they were actors. Years and years ago, (1997) when Titanic was the most popular movie in the world, my cousin Michael and I went to the theaters to see it, although I had already seen it before. Anyhoo, towards the end of the movie where everyone was standing on the bow of the ship while the ship was going down, there wasn't a dry eye in the theater. But then there was me. Laughing. Sometimes I can't help it. I see a mental image in my head and I can't help but laugh at it no matter how serious the subject matter is. I can't cry at anything unless my own feeling are being hurt. Two days ago, however. That was another story.
It was between 1:30 and 3:15 in the morning and I was watching For Colored Girls. I knew the movie was going to be a heavy when the previews came out last fall. But I didn't care I wanted to be entertained. So I went ahead and put the DVD in my DVD player and pressed Play. I didn't blog that night/morning because I decided to wait until later that day, so I thought I'd relax with a plate of fresh baked cookies, and curl up to a movie. According to a website I found, The film is directed by Tyler Perry and the screenplay is written by Nzingha Stewart based on the play by Ntozake Shange. The film stars Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, Anika Noni Rose, Omari Hardwick, Kerry Washington, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Tessa Thompson, Macy Gray, Richard Lawson and TJ Hassan.
There was this one scene that made a tear drop from eye. I mean, it literally just fell. Everyone who knows me knows that I don't cry during movies; I laugh. But not this time. That scene was so incredibly, so unbelievably, so heart breaking that I couldn't help but get emotional. Go see it and then we could talk about it.

Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, which consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color. It deals with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion. It later morphed into an Emmy Award-nominated television special and is still being performed around the world.
